Location: Eola Hills Winery
Guest Speaker: Steve Anderson, Winemaker for Eola Hills Winery and WVAWS Mentor
November is always a great time to have Steve as our speaker since most of us have already crushed, fermented and pressed our wine and racked into carboys or barrels. Hopefully no problems have come up, but, like so many times there are problems, just ask me. I assure you if you do have a problem Steve will have the answer and solution..
I'm sorry all of you missed the meeting at Terry's it was very informative. Terry had two mystery wines and they were a mystery and extremely good. He had to give all of us two chances to guess and Judy Wagner came up with the varietal for the red,but no one guessed the white. Thanks Terry that was fun. The food was OUTSTANDING. Thanks to all. You out did yourselves.
I have been in extended discussion with an insurance broker regarding liability insurance for our organization and it looks promising and affordable. Hopefully I'll have something to present at the meeting. Membership: I sent out an email last month regarding upaid dues, since we have quite a few of you that have not paid. I haven't checked with our Treasurer as of this date to see how many have responded, but let me just say, IT'S ONLY $25.00 PER YEAR. And remember, as a member you get a 20% discount on wine purchase at Eola Hills and 30% discount on wine at Willamette Valley Winery. I mean right there that will more than make up for the cost of membership. If you haven't already paid up please do so. Geeeezzzs

MEETING NOTES
September 20, 2008
The meeting was held at Terry & Connie Plagmann ‘s. It was a great time. Terry gave us a blind tasting of a red and white and our challenge was to guess the variety. It was fun. Judy guessed the red correct as a Malbec, everyone missed on the white; it was a French Marsanne.
Deane is talking with Steve to see if our meetings can be held at Eola routinely. If approved we need 6 people to set up and take down at each meeting. It was recommended that we have designees.
The liability issue was brought up again. Deane is checking into insurance. At this time, it appears that about a $1 million policy will cost about $1000 per year which translates to about $30.00 per member not including club dues. Also a member release was introduced. Members were asked to consider the liability issue.
Deane would like to separate the social period from the business meetings. It was recommended that wine be put away after the potluck with the business meeting following.
Jack gave a talk on his and Cheryl’s quest to grape growing and wine making. He explained some problems and solutions of vineyard management . The most important tip in making wine is good tasting grapes and stable temperature at fermentation of 65 degrees. We also had Q & A on problems in making wine. Jack gave us very good information.
Treasurer reported we have $708.00.
Meeting was adjourned.
We need six people to volunteer two help setting up tables and chairs as well as taking them down. Suggest you come 10 minutes early.
Remember our new programming will be social period with wine tasting, Potluck and speaker. Tasting will be closed for our meeting. Speaking of tasting we need an official barman/woman to be responsible for opening wines and closing bar prior to meeting. Please step forward and email me. We will need several people to share the responsibility.
